In 2003, Dr. Ifechide Nwabueze (Dr. Ife) graduated from the University of Benin in Nigeria. Her degree in dental surgery helped her to start her career working at the Army hospital in Nigeria as a general dentist, gaining professional experience in pediatrics, orthodontics, oral restoration, surgery, and periodontics. It was during this time at the Army hospital that she discovered her passion for working with children!

Dr. Ife earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia in 2010. She went on to complete her Pediatric Dentistry training at the Children's Hospital of Michigan, in Detroit. During her time there, she focused on pediatric clinical and hospital dentistry, including conscious sedation, dental surgery, and emergency dental services. Also, she worked with medically compromised children and those with special needs.

In addition to teaching undergraduates at the University Of Detroit Mercy Dental School, Dr. Ife has published numerous articles relating to pediatric dentistry, and pre-veneered stainless steel crowns on primary molars. Dr. Ife is married to John, an accountant, and they have three beautiful young daughters, Ashlea, Kayla, and Emily. She enjoys running, swimming, traveling, and spending time with family.

Friendly Dentist Services Around Ferndale

The pediatric team at Children's Dental Specialists can help your child if they're having certain oral health or development issues. Our pediatric dentist specializes in treating only children and teens. A pediatric dentist must complete advanced training in children's dentistry during their residency, after dental school, where they become equipped to diagnose and treat a range of complex childhood oral heath problems. From toddlers to teenagers, Children's Dental Specialists can help your child keep a happy, healthy, and confident smile in all the different stages of their life.

We can also take care of acute care, such as children's cavity treatment and tooth restorations. Just as general tooth care can affect eating and speaking, so can chipped or sore teeth, even if they're just baby teeth. Most importantly, if your child is very nervous and needs to undergo sedation dentistry before a procedure, a pediatric specialist will have a better understanding of how the medication will affect your child and be able to carry out the procedure in a calm, caring, and friendly manner. If you need to bring your child in for dental treatment, contact Children's Dental Specialists today. We'll help your child learn about what is happening inside his or her mouth and provide you with best practices to keep that mouth healthy.

Our Friendly Dentist Specializes In These Services And More:

Digital Radiographs (X-rays)

Our digital X-ray equipment makes a time-consuming task a breeze. With a handheld device, we can take an x-ray while the child watches a movie. It takes half the time of older techniques and gives off MUCH less radiation.

Composite (Tooth Colored) Fillings

A composite (tooth colored) filling is used to repair a tooth that is affected by decay, cracks, or fractures. The decayed or affected portion of the tooth will be removed and then filled with a composite filling. There are many types of filling materials available, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Composite fillings, along with silver amalgam fillings, are the most widely used today. Because composite fillings are tooth colored, they can be closely matched to the color of existing teeth, and are more aesthetically suited for use in front teeth or the more visible areas of the teeth.

Extractions

When a tooth is infected or injured, then the tooth may require extraction in order to remedy any infection or pain. This process is usually very simple in children.

Habit Appliance Therapy

If your child has habits such as thumb-sucking, finger-sucking, or tongue-thrusting, we have treatments that may help take care of the habits. Treatments may typically include use of a habit appliance and other options that our doctor may prescribe.

Pulpal Therapy for Primary and Immature Teeth

If your child's baby or adult teeth have large cavities that are either close to or into the nerve tissue, the tooth may require a pulpal therapy. We may either perform the following; a pulpotomy (removal of a portion of the infected nerve tissue leaving healthy tissue), a pulpectomy (removal of entire nerve tissue from canals), or root canal therapy. Symptoms that may require pulpal therapy include:

1. An abscess (or pimple) on the gums
2. Sensitivity to hot and cold
3. Severe toothache pain
4. Sometimes no symptoms are present
5. Swelling and/or tenderness

Ferndale MI's Top-Rated Friendly Dentist - Children's Dental Specialists - time1Timing Matters

Don't be nervous and wait too long for your child's first exam! Tooth decay can occur as soon as your child's first tooth is cut. Bacteria that are present in everyone's mouth changes the sugar in foods and drinks into acid. Every time your child eats or drinks, the sugar in the food or drink is changed into acid that can attack the teeth for 20 minutes or longer. Continued acid attacks lead to tooth decay and infections. Infections around the tooth can become serious perhaps requiring IV antibiotics or surgical drainage.

Additionally, it's important to get a baseline exam to see how your child's dental health is doing from the start. Our pediatric dentists will even demonstrate how to brush and care for your child's small teeth and properly address any odd patterns occurring - and address those quickly.
